Waterfront Bike Tour — Seattle Streets Alliance

Waterfront Bike Tour

You're Invited

Saturday, July 25, 10:00 AM

Thanks to years of advocacy, Seattle Streets Alliance is celebrating exciting openings over the last year of new protected bike lanes and trails on the Alaskan Way waterfront, E Marginal Way, the refurbished Elliott Bay Trail, and the Alki Point Healthy Street. Together, they make a continuous 12-mile protected waterfront trail, and we're going to ride it together!

  • What: Waterfront Celebration Bike Tour
  • When: Saturday, July 25, 10:00 AM
  • Starts at: Cafe Hagen Waterfront on the Elliott Bay Trail
  • Ends at: Alki Point in West Seattle
  • Distance: 11.5 miles (one-way)

What to Expect

The ride is approximately 11.5 miles and mostly flat. We will ride at a slow conversational pace with frequent stops, and kids are welcome. Lime has generously offered promo codes for any participants who would like to ride a Lime bike or scooter for the tour.

After the ride will be an optional social gathering for refreshments at Alki Coffee Co./Ben & Jerry’s. Following the tour, participants may want to enjoy lunch on Alki or take the West Seattle water taxi (a 2.5-mile ride from Alki Point) back to the downtown waterfront.

What We're Celebrating

Waterfront Bike Lane 2025

Completing the Downtown Waterfront Trail

In 2025, we celebrated the opening of the new protected trail along the downtown waterfront. Thanks to community advocacy and thoughtful adjustments, that trail was finally connected to the Elliott Bay Trail via a brand-new protected bike lane on the west side (along the water) of Alaskan Way. This half-mile link fills a critical gap between the newly rebuilt waterfront trail and some of Seattle’s most-used bike routes, with connections to Ballard, West Seattle, Downtown, and beyond.

East Marginal Way Bike Path

A Connected Bike Path from West Seattle to Downtown

In 2025, we also celebrated the completion of the northern segment of the East Marginal Way Improvement Project. This route connects the West Seattle Bridge Trail to the downtown bike network with a safe bike path for people of all ages and abilities for the very first time! The project took long-term collaboration among bike advocates, freight interests, and the city. Special shout-out to West Seattle Bike Connections for championing this project for many years, from idea to completion.

Alki Point Healthy Street with people walking and biking

Alki Point Healthy Street

After many years of local neighborhood advocacy, improvements to Alki Point Healthy Street will finally be completed later this year for people walking, rolling, biking, and playing. The project includes traffic calming on 60th, 61st, and 62nd Ave SW between SW Admiral and Alki Ave SW. This holistic neighborhood traffic calming will ensure that we aren’t just pushing speeding traffic from one street to the next, but instead ensuring safety throughout the neighborhood.
